Knoxville Utilities Board selects new CEO to follow retiring Mintha Roach

Knoxville Utilities Board commissioners announced the organization's next president and CEO.

Senior Vice President and Chief Engineer Gabriel "Gabe" Bolas II will succeed Mintha Roach, who will retire this year after serving as the utility's leader since 2004.

Bolas will be sworn in in October and plans to gather input with KUB employees and stakeholders.

In 1995, Bolas joined KUB as an engineer and has held many roles since then.

His current role, held since 2017, oversees engineering related to the four utility services, safety, security, technical services and new service engineering.

Bolas is a licensed professional engineer and is a member of the Leadership Knoxville class of 2018.

He earned his master's degree in industrial engineering and bachelor's in electrical engineering at the University of Tennessee.

KUB serves more than 457,000 customers in Knoxville and parts of seven surrounding counties.
