Melaleuca Inc. has obtained a state stormwater permit to expand its operation in Knox County's Forks of the River Industrial Park.
The company, which manufactures a wide range of consumer products, plans to build a new, 250,000-square-foot facility on 14 acres adjacent to its current operation, according to documents filed with the state.
Corporate spokesman Damon Watkins declined to offer any details or specifics about the project pending approval by the board of directors, which meets in two weeks.
He said if the expansion is approved the company would add about four or five employees. At present, the company has about 400 full-time employees and about 80 part-time workers at the Forks of the River plant.
The Idaho Falls, Idaho-based consumer direct marketing company opened its Knox County facility in 1992 to produce nutritional, pharmaceutical, personal care and cleaning products.
Melaleuca reports on its Web site that sales totaled $783 million in 2006.
